What We Connect

Dishwashers, Ice Makers & Washing Machines

New appliance deliveries rarely include professional installation. Indiana Flow handles every water line and gas line connection to get your appliance running right the first time — safely and to code.

Refrigerator Ice Maker & Water Dispenser

We run a dedicated supply line from the nearest cold water line to your refrigerator location, install a saddle-free compression fitting or angle stop, and connect the manufacturer-approved supply tube. No more relying on the flimsy plastic saddle valve that came in the box.

Dishwasher

A dishwasher hookup includes connecting the hot water supply line to the shutoff valve under the sink, routing and securing the drain hose with a proper high loop or air gap to the disposal or drain tailpiece, and confirming no leaks before we leave.

Washing Machine

We connect both the hot and cold supply hoses to dedicated shutoff valves and confirm the drain hose is properly secured to the standpipe or utility sink. If the laundry area is missing shutoff valves, we install them during the same visit.

Gas Dryer

Gas dryer connections require a licensed plumber in Indiana. We install an approved flexible gas connector between the appliance and the gas shutoff, perform a pressure test, and check for leaks before turning the gas back on.

Gas Range & Oven

We connect your range to the gas shutoff with an approved flex connector, confirm the shutoff valve is accessible and working, and pressure-test the connection. Whether you're upgrading from electric or replacing an existing range, we handle the gas side cleanly.

Water Heater Connections

When you purchase a water heater elsewhere and need it connected, Indiana Flow handles the gas line connection, water supply connections, and pressure relief valve discharge line. See our water heater installation page for full replacement service.

Outdoor Gas Grill (Permanent Line)

Tired of hauling propane tanks? We run a permanent natural gas line to your outdoor grill or built-in outdoor kitchen, including a dedicated shutoff valve and a quick-connect fitting sized for your appliance.

Whole-House Humidifier

Whole-house humidifiers tie into your cold water supply line. We run the feed line, install a saddle-free valve or tee fitting, and confirm no leaks at the humidifier connection point. HVAC contractors install the unit; we handle the water line.

Protect Your Home

Safe, Leak-Free Connections

A DIY connection that looks fine today can fail silently over weeks — and the damage bill is severe.

Water damage from a failed appliance connection is one of the most common and costly homeowner insurance claims in Indiana. A single slow leak behind a refrigerator or under a dishwasher can destroy cabinetry, subfloor, and drywall before anyone notices. The average water damage claim from an appliance leak runs $5,000 to $50,000 depending on how long the water ran and what materials were affected.

Gas line connections are not a DIY project anywhere in Indiana. State law requires a licensed plumber to connect and test gas appliances. An improperly connected gas line creates a fire and carbon monoxide risk that puts your entire household in danger.

Many homeowner insurance policies include exclusions for damage caused by improper DIY plumbing work. If an adjuster determines that an unlicensed person made the connection, your claim can be denied — leaving you to cover the full repair cost out of pocket.

Indiana Flow holds Indiana plumbing license PC12000053 and pulls permits when required by the City of Indianapolis, Hamilton County, or other local jurisdictions. That means the work is on record, it has been or will be inspected, and you have documentation if you ever sell the home.

Our Process

What's Included in an Appliance Hookup

Every hookup visit follows the same checklist — no corners cut, no missing steps.

1

Supply Line Installation

We install the correct supply line for your appliance — braided stainless steel for water connections, approved flexible connector for gas. No generic big-box fittings.

2

Shutoff Valve Check & Install

If the hookup point is missing a dedicated shutoff valve, we install one during the same visit. You should always be able to shut off a single appliance without cutting water to the whole house.

3

Connection to Existing Line

We tie the supply line into the nearest existing water line or gas line, using proper fittings rated for the application. All connections are made to current Indiana plumbing code.

4

Pressure Test

Gas connections are pressure-tested before the appliance is turned on. Water connections are tested with the supply valve open and the line pressurized, while we inspect every joint.

5

Leak Check

We use leak-detection solution on every gas fitting and physically inspect every water connection under pressure before we consider the job complete.

6

Homeowner Walk-Through

Before we leave, we show you where your shutoff valves are, explain what to watch for, and confirm the appliance is operating as expected. No surprises after we're gone.

No Existing Hookup? No Problem.

Adding a New Water or Gas Line

Sometimes an appliance is going into a location that has never had a water or gas connection — a refrigerator moving to a new kitchen layout, a washing machine in a basement that was previously dry, or an outdoor kitchen being added to the backyard. In these cases, Indiana Flow runs a new supply line or gas line to the new location from scratch.

We size the new pipe correctly for the application, route it cleanly through walls or ceilings, and install a dedicated shutoff valve at the new hookup point. The new line is tied into your existing plumbing system using proper fittings, pressure-tested, and inspected before we connect the appliance.

For gas line extensions, we calculate the load against your existing gas system to confirm adequate pressure will be maintained at both the new appliance and any existing gas appliances in the home. See our gas piping page for more on new gas line work.

If you're replacing an older faucet or fixture at the same time, ask about bundling that work — visit our faucet installation page to see what we do there.

Common Questions

Appliance Hookup FAQ

Do I need a plumber to hook up a dishwasher?

In most cases, yes — and it's strongly recommended even when not legally required. A dishwasher hookup involves a water supply connection, a drain connection to the sink drain or garbage disposal, and often an electrical connection. An improper water supply fitting or drain loop is one of the most common causes of under-sink water damage. Indiana Flow installs it right the first time so you don't have to worry.

Can you hook up a gas dryer?

Absolutely. Gas dryer hookups require a licensed plumber in Indiana. We connect the gas supply line using a new approved flex connector, check for leaks with a pressure test, and make sure the shut-off valve is accessible and functioning. We do not connect the electrical plug or vent duct — those are outside our scope — but we handle everything on the gas side.

How much does appliance hookup cost?

Cost depends on the appliance and whether a shutoff valve needs to be added. A simple refrigerator water line connection starts around $150–$250. A dishwasher hookup typically runs $200–$350. Gas appliance connections are priced by complexity. Indiana Flow gives you upfront pricing through our Good/Better/Best quoting system so you know the number before we schedule.

What if there's no existing water line where the appliance will go?

No problem. If the appliance is going into a new location — a refrigerator in a remodeled kitchen island, a washing machine in a basement, or an outdoor kitchen — Indiana Flow can run a new supply line or gas line to that location. We size the pipe correctly, install a dedicated shutoff valve, and tie into your existing system cleanly.

Do you guarantee your connections?

Yes. Every hookup Indiana Flow performs is backed by a 1-year labor warranty. If a fitting we installed leaks or a connection fails within a year of our work, we come back and fix it at no charge. We also pull permits when required by the City of Indianapolis or surrounding municipalities, so the work is inspected and on record.
