Indianapolis Interior Pipe Specialists

Repairing Burst, Frozen & Corroded Pipes

Indiana Flow handles interior pipe repair and whole-home repiping for homeowners throughout Indianapolis and the surrounding suburbs. Whether you have a single pipe that burst overnight, a corroded section that keeps developing pinhole leaks, or a home full of original galvanized steel plumbing that is long past its service life, we can repair or replace it properly.

Many Indianapolis homes built before 1975 still have the original galvanized steel supply pipes installed when the house was constructed. Galvanized pipes corrode from the inside out — slowly restricting water flow, contaminating water with rust, and eventually failing one section at a time. By the time homeowners notice the symptoms, the corrosion is usually widespread and affecting the entire system.

This page covers interior supply pipe repair and repiping only. If your concern is the water line running from the street to your home, visit our water line repair page. If you need help finding a hidden leak before committing to repair, our leak detection service is the right starting point.

What We Fix & Replace

When to Consider Whole-Home Repiping

From a single cracked joint to a complete system replacement, Indiana Flow handles every scale of interior pipe work.

Burst or Split Pipe Repair

Pipes can split from freezing temperatures, water hammer, or age. We locate the failure, cut out the damaged section, and install new pipe — correctly pressure-tested before we leave.

Corroded & Pinhole Leak Repair

A single pinhole leak in copper can be patched. Two or three in the same area suggests broader corrosion. We assess the extent and recommend targeted repair or partial replacement based on what we actually find.

Partial Pipe Replacement

When corrosion or damage is isolated to one room, one floor, or one branch line, partial replacement is often the most cost-effective solution. We replace only what needs replacing and integrate it cleanly with the existing system.

Whole-Home Repiping

When a home's entire supply system is galvanized steel or severely corroded copper, a full repipe is the right call. We replace all supply lines from the main shutoff outward with new copper or PEX.

PEX Repiping

Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) is the modern standard for residential repiping. Flexible, freeze-resistant, and easy to route through finished walls with minimal disruption. Indiana Flow installs PEX throughout the home where appropriate.

Copper Pipe Installation

Copper has a 50-plus-year proven track record and is preferred for homes where water quality and long-term durability are the priority. We solder every joint cleanly and pressure-test the completed system.

Pipe Rerouting

Sometimes the best repair is a new path entirely — rerouting around a wall that cannot be opened, a structural element that cannot be penetrated, or a section of pipe buried in concrete that is not worth excavating.

Know the Warning Signs

Signs Your Pipes Need Attention

Indianapolis homes built in the 1940s through the 1970s commonly have original galvanized supply pipes. These pipes corrode from the inside out — by the time you notice the symptoms, the corrosion is usually already widespread. Do not wait for a major failure to investigate.

  • Brown or rust-colored water

Discolored water at the tap — especially first thing in the morning — is a direct sign of galvanized pipes corroding from the inside. The rust is entering your water supply.

  • Reduced water pressure at multiple fixtures simultaneously

If pressure has dropped throughout the house (not just one faucet), internal pipe corrosion is narrowing the flow path. This is a systemic issue, not a fixture problem.

  • Visible corrosion or mineral buildup on exposed pipes

Green staining on copper, white mineral deposits, or flaking rust on steel are all signs of active deterioration. Check under sinks, in the utility room, and in the basement.

  • Recurring pinhole leaks

One pinhole leak may be a local issue. Two or three in the same pipe run signals widespread corrosion. Patching individual holes at this stage is a losing strategy.

  • Pipes over 50 years old

Galvanized steel has a typical service life of 40–70 years. If your home was built before 1975 and the pipes have never been replaced, they are operating on borrowed time.

  • Metallic taste or smell in the water

A metallic taste indicates pipe material is leaching into the water. This is a health and plumbing concern that warrants prompt inspection.

Material Guide

Galvanized vs. Copper vs. PEX — What We Recommend

Understanding the differences helps you make the right call for your home and budget.

Galvanized Steel

Standard in homes built before the 1960s and occasionally into the 1970s. Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside out — the zinc protective coating breaks down over decades, leaving bare steel that rusts progressively, restricts flow, and eventually fails.

If your home still has original galvanized pipes, replacement is not a question of if but when. Continuing to patch individual leaks is rarely cost-effective once corrosion is systemic.

Typical service life: 40–70 years. Being replaced.

Copper

Indiana Flow's preferred material for whole-home repiping. Copper has a proven 50-plus-year service life, is naturally resistant to bacteria, and has no impact on water taste or quality. It holds up in Indianapolis's climate and integrates well with existing copper in partially updated homes.

Copper is slightly higher in material cost than PEX but is the right choice for homeowners prioritizing maximum longevity and water quality. Every joint is soldered and pressure-tested before we leave.

Typical service life: 50–70+ years. Indiana Flow preferred.

PEX (Cross-Linked Polyethylene)

PEX is the modern standard for residential repiping. It is flexible — meaning it can be fished through walls, around bends, and into tight spaces that rigid copper cannot reach without cutting into more drywall. It is also naturally freeze-resistant, which matters in Indianapolis winters.

PEX costs slightly less in materials than copper and installs faster in finished homes. Indiana Flow installs PEX where it makes the most sense: tight spaces, partial repipes in finished areas, and when budget is the primary constraint.

Typical service life: 25–50+ years. Excellent modern alternative.

The Process

Whole-Home Repiping — What to Expect

A full repipe is a significant project. Here is exactly how Indiana Flow handles it, from the first day through final cleanup.

1

Free On-Site Estimate

We walk through the home, assess the existing pipe material and condition, identify access points, and provide upfront Good/Better/Best pricing before any commitment is made. You will know the full scope and cost before we schedule a single day of work.

2

Scheduling & Preparation

We schedule the job around your availability. For a full whole-home repipe on an average Indianapolis home, plan for two to four days. Larger homes or homes with limited wall access may take longer. We communicate the timeline clearly upfront.

3

Controlled Wall Access

Rather than opening entire walls, Indiana Flow uses strategic small access points — targeted cuts where needed to reach the pipes, minimizing disruption to finished surfaces. We protect flooring and furniture in work areas.

4

New Pipe Installation & Pressure Testing

New copper or PEX runs are installed throughout the home. Before closing any walls, we pressure-test the completed system to verify there are no leaks at any connection point.

5

Drywall Patch & Cleanup

Indiana Flow patches drywall openings after the pipe work is complete. We also offer full drywall repair and finishing through our drywall repair service if you want the walls fully restored to paint-ready condition. We clean up the work area thoroughly at the end of each day.

Water Disruption During the Job

Water service to the home will be shut off during active work each day. Most homeowners remain in the home and work around the interruption. We restore water service at the end of each workday so you have full use of your plumbing overnight. Most families find the disruption manageable, particularly for partial repipes completed in a single day.

Financing Available

Whole-home repiping is a significant investment. Indiana Flow offers financing through Wisetack (0% APR options available) and Klarna so you can move forward without waiting. Ask about financing options during your estimate.

Common Questions

Pipe Repair & Repiping FAQ

How much does whole-home repiping cost in Indianapolis?

Whole-home repiping in Indianapolis typically ranges from $4,000 to $12,000 or more depending on the size of the home, the material chosen (copper vs. PEX), and how accessible the existing pipes are. Single-room or partial replacements cost significantly less. Indiana Flow provides upfront Good/Better/Best pricing before any work begins so you know exactly what to expect. We also offer financing through Wisetack (0% options available) and Klarna.

How long does repiping take?

A partial repipe — replacing pipes in one bathroom or one section of the home — is often completed in a single day. A full whole-home repipe for an average Indianapolis house typically takes two to four days. Larger homes or those with limited wall access may take longer. Indiana Flow will walk you through the estimated timeline during your free estimate so you can plan accordingly.

Do I have to leave my home during repiping?

Not necessarily, though water service will be shut off for portions of each workday. Most homeowners choose to stay and work around the disruption, particularly if the job spans multiple days. If we are working in areas that require extensive drywall access, you may find it more comfortable to be out of those rooms during active cutting and repair. We keep the work area as contained as possible and clean up at the end of each day.

Copper or PEX — which should I choose?

Both are excellent long-term materials and a significant upgrade over aging galvanized steel. Copper has a 50-plus-year track record, is preferred in older Indianapolis homes where matching existing materials matters, and performs exceptionally well for water quality. PEX is flexible, easier to run through tight or finished spaces, naturally freeze-resistant, and slightly lower in material cost. Indiana Flow installs both and will recommend the right material based on your home's layout, budget, and goals.

Will insurance cover pipe replacement?

Homeowners insurance typically covers sudden and accidental water damage caused by a burst pipe, but it usually does not cover the cost of replacing aging or corroded pipes as a preventive measure. If a pipe bursts and causes damage, your insurer may cover remediation but not the plumbing repair itself. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly. Indiana Flow can provide detailed invoices and documentation to support any claim you file.
