Know Your Options
Repair, Replace, or Reglaze? We'll Help You Decide
Indiana Flow offers both services. Here's how to know which one you actually need.
Choose Glazing When…
- ✓The fiberglass or acrylic is structurally sound (no cracks through the substrate)
- ✓The pan holds water properly — no soft spots or flex
- ✓The finish is yellowed, stained, or surface-worn but the bones are fine
- ✓You want a like-new look without the cost of demo and replacement
Typical cost: $1,500–$2,000
Learn about shower glazing →Choose Replacement When…
- ✓The pan is cracked, leaking, or has visible water damage behind the wall
- ✓There's mold or rot in the framing — discovered during a prior repair
- ✓The unit is more than 20–25 years old and showing structural failure
- ✓You're adding a shower where none existed before
Typical cost: $3,000–$6,000+

No Surprises
What the Installation Includes
A shower replacement isn't just swapping fiberglass — done right, it includes a full inspection of what's behind the walls.

- 1
Demo & Removal
We remove the old shower unit, surround, and pan. Debris is cleared and the space is ready for inspection.
- 2
Wall & Subfloor Inspection
Before anything goes back in, we check for mold, rot, or water damage in the framing and subfloor. If we find it, we tell you immediately and document it before proceeding.
- 3
Rough Plumbing Adjustments
If your new unit requires supply or drain repositioning — or if existing connections are corroded — we handle it. We're licensed plumbers, not just installers.
- 4
Pan & Surround Installation
The new fiberglass pan is set and leveled, then the surround panels are installed to manufacturer spec. Seams are caulked and sealed.
- 5
Valve & Showerhead Hookup
We connect and test the shower valve, supply lines, and showerhead. Delta is our go-to for reliability and parts availability.
- 6
Drywall & Finish Work
Edges around the surround are trimmed and finished cleanly. We leave the space ready to paint — no raw drywall seams or exposed framing.
New Builds & Additions
Adding a Shower to a New Space
Whether you're finishing a basement, converting a tub-only bathroom, or building new — Indiana Flow handles the full plumbing scope.
Adding a shower where one doesn't currently exist is a more involved project than a simple replacement, but it's one Indiana Flow does regularly across Indianapolis and Hamilton County.
We handle complete rough-in plumbing for new shower spaces, including:
- ✓Waste line tie-in and trap installation
- ✓Supply line runs to the new valve location
- ✓Vent stack connections as required by Indiana code
- ✓Basement drain installations (we confirm drain depth before quoting)
- ✓Converting a tub alcove to a shower-only configuration
After rough-in is complete and inspected, we return to set the fiberglass unit, connect the valve and showerhead, and finish out the space. For new bathroom additions, we can also handle any additional fixture work — see our faucet installation page for details on sinks and fixtures.
Financing is available through Wisetack (0% options) and Klarna — useful for larger addition projects.

Common Questions
Shower Installation FAQ
How long does shower or tub installation take?
Most fiberglass or prefab shower and tub installations take one to two days once the unit is on-site. Rough plumbing for a brand-new space — like a basement addition — typically adds another half-day. We'll give you a firm timeline before we start.
Do I need to buy my own unit?
No. Indiana Flow can source and supply the shower, tub, or combo unit, which is usually the easiest path. We prefer Sterling fiberglass surrounds and bases and American Standard tubs for their durability and warranty. If you've already purchased a unit or have one picked out, we're happy to install it.
What brands do you install?
We most commonly install Sterling and Kohler prefab fiberglass and acrylic shower systems, and American Standard and Kohler soaking and alcove tubs. For valves and showerheads we default to Delta, which we stock regularly. Other brands can be accommodated on request.
Can you convert a tub alcove to a shower-only setup?
Yes — this is one of the more common projects we do. We remove the existing tub, adjust the drain and supply connections, and install a fiberglass shower pan and surround in the same alcove. The conversion typically takes one to two days.
Can you add a shower or tub to a basement?
Yes. Basement bathroom additions are a specialty. We handle full rough-in plumbing — waste line tie-in, supply lines, vent stack work — as well as the finish installation of the shower or tub unit. We'll need to confirm drain depth before quoting.
Can glazing fix my shower instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If your shower surround or tub is structurally sound but stained, yellowed, or showing surface wear, professional glazing can restore it for significantly less than full replacement. Indiana Flow offers glazing as a specialty service — we'll tell you honestly which option your situation calls for.
